How to Make Emperor Penguin Models
- 1). Blow up the balloon partially, leaving enough room to manipulate the shape. Tie off the balloon using a simple knot. Pinch the top of the balloon to form the penguin's beak.
- 2). Cut a piece of twine long enough to encircle the balloon. Decide where you'd like the penguin's neck to be, and wrap the twine around the balloon, pulling it tighter to separate the head and body shapes. Secure the twine with a small piece of tape.
- 3). Mix equal parts water and glue in the bowl. The papier mache mixture can get messy, so protect your work surface and clothing before you begin. Cut or tear the newspaper into strips about an inch wide.
- 4). Dip a strip of newspaper into the glue mixture and press it to the balloon, smoothing as you go to remove any wrinkles. Repeat until the balloon is covered, using smaller pieces to cover the beak.
- 5). Let the papier mache dry completely, which will take approximately a day. Cut out wings, a tail and feet from the poster board, and tape them to the penguin's body.
- 6). Paint the model penguin, replicating the unique yellow spots, and let dry.
