- 1). Add a few drops of water to your acrylic paint for minor changes in consistency. You can do this by dipping your brush into a glass of water, shaking it once and then flicking the excess moisture from your brush into your paint. Mix the paint and water with your brush.
- 2). Choose an acrylic fluid medium that suits your painting style, paint consistency and canvas. There are matte and glossy variations of the acrylic fluid medium along with mediums that are designed for airbrushing and silk screen painting. No matter the type you select, they all help to thin heavy body acrylics.
- 3). Dip your brush into the acrylic fluid medium of your choice. Take the brush and mix your paint with it. You will see an immediate change in the texture and fluidity of your paint. Repeat if necessary to gain the desired consistency.
