Minocin Side Effects

    Gastrointestinal Side Effects

    • Gastrointestinal side effects are relatively common with Minocin. These include diarrhea, lack of appetite, upset stomach, nausea and vomiting. Taking the medication with food can help.

    Other Side Effects

    • Other side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, fever and headaches. Minocin also increases sensitivity to sunlight and the risk of sunburn.

    Caution

    • Minocin can damage the esophagus if it sticks in the throat. It should be taken with plenty of fluids, and one should not lie down immediately after taking it.

    Rare Side Effects

    • Rare Minocin side effects include allergic reactions, colitis, impaired kidney or liver function, pancreatitis and skin or tooth discoloration.

    Pregnancy Concerns

    • If Minocin is taken during the second half of pregnancy, it can cause birth defects. Minocin also passes through breast milk and can affect the development of a baby's bones and teeth.
