- Gastrointestinal side effects are relatively common with Minocin. These include diarrhea, lack of appetite, upset stomach, nausea and vomiting. Taking the medication with food can help.
- Other side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, fever and headaches. Minocin also increases sensitivity to sunlight and the risk of sunburn.
- Minocin can damage the esophagus if it sticks in the throat. It should be taken with plenty of fluids, and one should not lie down immediately after taking it.
- Rare Minocin side effects include allergic reactions, colitis, impaired kidney or liver function, pancreatitis and skin or tooth discoloration.
- If Minocin is taken during the second half of pregnancy, it can cause birth defects. Minocin also passes through breast milk and can affect the development of a baby's bones and teeth.
