How to Polish With a Felt Wheel for a Dremel Tool
- 1). Wash or dust the item you plan to polish to remove any dirt or grit that may be in place; large grit may cause the item to be scratched during the polishing process while dirt and dust can make the polishing less effective.
- 2). Select a polishing wheel and attach it to the Dremel (polishing wheels are white and made of compressed felt, and their shapes are designed for polishing large areas). If the object you want to polish has a lot of tight crevices or is small in general, use a bit with tightly compressed felt that you can work into the crevices with some firmness.
- 3). Turn on the Dremel and set it to a low speed.
- 4). Apply polishing compound to the bit by dipping the bit into the jar of compound while it's spinning. Coat it with as much polish as the bit will hold, unless you're doing a small polishing job, in which case use just enough to coat the surface of whatever it is you're polishing (don't worry too much about getting the amount right; you can correct it later by wiping some compound away or dipping again for more).
- 5). Adjust the speed switch on the Dremel to a medium setting.
- 6). Polish the object by moving the spinning Dremel bit over the surface of the item you want to polish. Move the bit in a slow, circular motion until you've covered all the surface of the item. You should have enough polish to allow the bit to glide easily over the object's surface; if not, lower the speed again and dip the bit for some extra.
- 7). Wipe the object with a clean, dry rag to remove the polish. You may need to wipe twice, with two separate rags, to remove everything. If the item has small cracks and crevices, clean these with cotton swabs.
