How to Recycle Glass & Aluminum
- 1). Locate your nearest community drop-off facility or determine if your regular garbage company provides curbside collections. Ensure that the facility accepts aluminum products and check which type of products are accepted. If you have curbside pick-up available, review their guidelines as well, particularly on how to set out your recyclable items.
- 2). Collect and save recyclable aluminum. Rinse out all of the containers, remove any lids or tops. If required, flatten out aluminum cans. Wipe off aluminum foil if it is recyclable in your area, to remove any food or debris so that it is clean as possible.
- 3). Place the cleaned items into a garbage bag that is easy to transport or if you are setting it out with the garbage, place it in the appropriate recycle bin for pick-up.
- 4). Take the items to the recycling facility and follow their drop-off instructions. Alternately, set your recycle bin outside as instructed on the indicated pick-up day.
- 1). Locate a recycling drop-off facility or check with your areas department of public works to see if there is curbside pick-up available at your location. Review or ask for instructions how to set out or deliver the glass items for collection.
- 2). Collect containers such as bottles and jars only. According to the Glass Packaging Institute containers such as food jars and beer bottles, for example can be recycled, while heat-resistant items, drinking glasses and window glass are examples of items to avoid. Remove any lids and rinse out appropriate glass items. Store them in a plastic container where they will not easily break, until you are able to deliver them to the recycle facility or put them directly in the correct bin for curbside pick up. If necessary, separate clear, brown and green glass from each other.
- 3). Put your glass recycle bin out on the appropriate curbside pick-up day. If you do not have curbside, deliver the glass to the nearest recycling facility and follow their instructions to deposit.
