- 1). Divide the RPM by 60 to convert it to hertz. For example, 3,600 RPM divided by 60 yields 60 hertz.
- 2). Multiply the result by the fan blade length to get the speed in inches per second. For example, 5 inches times 60 hertz gives you 300 inches per second.
- 3). Divide the result by 17.6 to convert inches per second to miles per hour (MPH). Continuing with the example, 300 inches per second divided by 17.6 yields approximately 17 MPH.
