How to Know if Your IP Is Static?

    • 1). Run the command prompt. To do this in Windows 7, go to the Windows orb logo (formerly the "Start" menu). In the search field, type "cmd" and then press "Enter."

    • 2). Type "ipconfig /all" in the command prompt window and press "Enter."

    • 3). Check the results for the line DHCP Enabled. If the line says "No" next to it then it is a static IP. If it says "Yes" then it is a dynamic IP. By scrolling down you can also see when the lease was obtained and when it expires if it is a dynamic IP. When a dynamic IP expires, a new one is assigned.
