How do I Attach a Wheelchair Cushion?

    • 1). Arrange the Velcro pads on the cushion base, matching the corresponding pads on the wheelchair seat.

    • 2). Orient the cushion. If the cushion has special features, such as gel-filled pads for pressure relief, these should be lined up properly for use at the rear of the seat, rather than in the front. This can be a key issue for the user in avoiding pressure sores. Cushions are available in a wide variety of styles, including gel-filled pads, air cushions and single density. Make sure that you are familiar with the cushion features prior to installation.

    • 3). Place the cushion onto the seat, joining the corresponding Velcro pads together. Ensure that the cushion is pushed firmly against the backrest to avoid the user slumping in a gap at the rear of the chair. Additionally, ensure that the cushion cannot be caught by the turning wheels.

    • 4). Pull up on the cushion gently. This will ensure that the cushion is attached, with the Velcro pads gripping firmly. Make any further adjustments that are needed, such as the alignment of the gel in a cushion. The wheelchair is now ready for use.
