- 1). Add your monthly donations together to find your total charitable contributions for the year. For example, if you donated $200 per month, you could write off $2,400 for the year.
- 2). Report the total amount of your donations for the year on line 16 of Schedule A, which lists all of your itemized deductions. Add the value of any other donations claimed and report the total on line 19.
- 3). Add the value of your total charitable donations, including your monthly donations, to any other itemized deductions you claimed and report the total on line 29 of Schedule A.
- 4). File your income taxes with Form 1040 and enter your total itemized deductions, instead of a standard deduction, on line 40. This lowers your adjusted gross income for the year, thereby lowering your income taxes.
