Whether you want to sell just one vehicle privately or you're a dealer who needs an advertising source, there are many outdoor avenues to explore. Some are free and others are costly. Regardless of the method you choose, outdoor advertising should promote traffic to your showroom or result in a quick sale of your vehicle.

    Malls and Shopping Centers

    • Advertising your vehicle at a high-traffic shopping area can promote excitement and create awareness of a dealership or car lot. This method is costly. Many malls, although not all, allow new vehicles into a mall in a showroom-like area with high traffic. You can write on the vehicle window with a paint marker to show an aggressive price, or attractive finance and lease deals. Speaking with the mall marketing manager should help to come up with other ideas, such as an outside tent or ideas that the specific mall policies allow.

    High-Traffic Areas

    • Parking a vehicle in a high-traffic area can lead more people to your vehicle--people who may not have found it otherwise. Choose a vacant lot on a main road. Make sure that you check with the property owner before attempting this advertising method, your car can be towed if you do not obtain permission. Check with friends to find out if anyone has a good traffic property and would allow you to park your car on the property. You can create a flier with the vehicle information and leave it on the car's dashboard for people who stop to see. Leave your phone number and include the vehicle mileage. This outdoor advertising method works best for used cars.

    Sponsorship and Contests

    • Sponsor events to advertise vehicles, if you are a dealer. Local golf tournaments are a great way to generate business. Check with local police and fire departments to find out about the possibility of raffling off a vehicle. If you cannot afford to give away a new or used car, be sure to price the tickets high and continue the raffle until the money you need is made. This advertising method is a great source of business and shows positive community prescience. Consider sponsoring a car show or a local sports team. Bring your vehicle to the events you sponsor.

    Car Show or Meet

    • Both dealers and individuals can benefit from advertising in a car show or at a car meet. Larger car shows may allow you to use a tent and park several of your vehicles to promote interest in your cars, if you're a dealer. You can also add sales staff. If you are an individual, enter your car in the show with a "For sale" sign. Simply leaving your vehicle in the parking lot with the same material and information as a high-traffic area will also promote interest--most people parking at a car show are interested in vehicles in one way or another and may be looking to buy.
