Whitney Thompson - True Top Model Or Best Bet For Good Publicity?

As the winner of Top Model, Whitney Thompson, 20, will have a fashion spread in Seventeen and an Elite modeling contract.
While no one can debate Whitney's beauty and fierce photos, some believe her winning was the direct result of Tyra Banks and her producers hoping to gain good publicity from her plus-size audience.
While Tyra has always allowed plus-size models to compete in the Top Model competition (despite Janice Dickinson's assertion that they did not belong there), they have never made it far.
Viewers are still steaming about Sarah's elimination because she started out as a plus size model but then lost just enough weight to be too thin for plus size, but too fat compared to the size 0 competition.
Toccara, another favorite plus size model, was eliminated when she lost steam in the middle of the competition.
As history suggests, Tyra seems to have no sympathy for plus size model wannabes unless they stay way ahead of the slender pack.
She has told plus size girls in more than one episode, "You have to work that much harder because you are plus size.
" Whitney failed to deliver in many shoots in Cycle 10, most notably the body paint shot and the Italian commercial.
She was in the bottom two many times, earning the most consecutive and collective appearances.
However, Tyra may have been influenced by more than just viewer praise when chosing a winner.
Perhaps Whitney reminded her of herself.
It wasn't long ago that Tyra Banks was slammed in the tabloids for being too fat.
She was outraged at the assertion that because she weighed more than she did during her Victoria's Secret days, she was way too fat to be a model.
Tyra answered back not only her daytime talk show but also in People magazine, saying, "If I had lower self esteem, I'd probably be starving myself right now.
" Overall, I'd say that Tyra was influenced by many factors, including the producers' pressure and her own experience with tough critics.
Either way, Whitney is Cycle 10's winner, and should be commended.
