Reader Submits Report of Triangle UFO in Maryland

Introduction
The following account was sent to me by one of our readers. He tells us: This report was prompted by my reading of a similar story that also occurred in 1979 as reported in Billy Booth's 01/09/12 e-mail.

My story begins in Salisbury, Maryland in late October in 1979. I was leaving the next day to take a new job in Florida while my wife and children stayed behind to deal with selling the house, etc.

The event unfolded like this: I left my house the night before I was to leave for Florida, after dark, to go to the store about 3 miles away for a carton of cigarettes, a trip that would have taken 15 minutes or so.

Large Triangle Observed

I turned left at the intersection about a mile from my house, and when I looked up over the large oak tree that formed a canopy over the roadway ahead, I saw a large, black triangular craft hovering just over the roadway and tree top, less than 200 ft. high.

I observed no lights, and there was complete silence and no movement, whatsoever.

The craft covered the entire area, which I estimate to be about 100 to 150 feet in width. It was silhouetted against a lightly lit sky. There was no other traffic on the road at that time.

UFO reports in that area were not that unusual, as we were not far from Wallops Island, Virginia, the original NASA Launch site.

No Memory of Event

Here is the strange part: I continued on to the store without stopping to look closer, I purchased the cigarettes and again passed right by the same spot where the object was just observed 10 minutes earlier without looking or even thinking about it.

I arrived home but do not remember anything beyond that.

Here is another strange part of the story. None of what I just wrote about above came in to my conscious mind until sometime after December or January of 1979-1980 after we had moved to West Palm Beach, Florida on December 15th of 1979.

It was as if I awoke one day and suddenly remembered the events of that night. I questioned myself countless times trying to determine if the event was factual or just a vivid dream, I could not be sure.

Evidently, I never discussed the event with my family that night because at that time, I wasn't conscious of it. I never discussed the event with anyone until years later.

Memory Restored

This is another strange part of the story. Several years later, I was discussing the event with my son who now had an interest in UFOs, he was 8 or 9 at the time of the event.

Yes, he said, I remember that night and we wondered why it took you 2 hours for a 20 minute trip to the store. I was floored; I had never heard that before and as far as I can remember no one had mentioned it at the time I returned home, or did they?

Well, now my mind was working overtime trying to figure out what the heck had happened, had I been abducted, or just had my memory erased or what?

Consumed by UFO Subject

I had no idea and still don't. Up until that time I had little interest in UFOs, but since I have been consumed by them. I read everything I could get my hands on pertaining to UFOs.

I visited or tried to visit Area 51 in 2003, and was buzzed by helicopters and black fighter jets. My first interest in UFOs occurred during the Barney Hill episode in New Hampshire in the early 60s, where I was stationed in the U.S. Air Force.

Being in Security on a SAC base, we were briefed for possible breaches of security on the base; there were none.

Whatever happened that night in 1979 is constantly on my mind, and I know this story is hard to understand; I don't understand it myself.

Maybe it was just a dream, perhaps it was real, I probably will never know, but I will always wonder. I'm 70 years old and time is getting short.
