Allergy Conditions & Symptoms
- Asthma is a chronic lung disease that results in symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, tightness in the chest and/or a shortness of breath. Exposure to airborne allergens can lead to asthma symptoms.
- Allergic rhinitis is an inflammation of the nose that causes symptoms such as an itchy nose, mouth or eyes; sneezing and coughing; and nasal congestion and/or clogged ears. Hay fever, one common form of rhinitis, is caused by pollen allergies.
- Otitis media is a middle-ear infection that can be caused by other respiratory problems, such as a cold or allergies. Symptoms of otitis media include clogged ears, pain in the ears, difficulty hearing and/or a loss of balance.
- Hives is an illness that causes red, itchy bumps to appear on different parts of the body. The condition is often caused by allergies to a food or medication.
- Pinkeye is an inflammation of the membrane in the white portion of the eye. The condition can be triggered by reactions to dust mites or pollen. Symptoms of pinkeye include discomfort in the eyes, swollen eyelids, light sensitivity and/or discharges from the eyes.
