How to Connect to gChat on iChat
- 1). Open iChat and select the "iChat" menu in the upper-left corner.
- 2). Select "Preferences" and click the "Accounts" icon at the top of the "Preferences" menu. "Accounts" is the second icon and indicated by the shadowed outline of two people.
- 3). Click the "+" button in the lower-left corner of the screen and choose "Jabber Account" from the list of account types you can link to iChat.
- 4). Fill in your full email address as the Jabber ID -- i.e., username@gmail.com. If you're a Google Apps user, fill in your email address with whatever extension you have associated with your account. Enter your Google account password.
- 5). Set the server to "talk.google.com" and select "Use this account" in the lower-left corner, if the check box is not already selected. Click "Add."
- 6). Select your Google account from the "Accounts" sidebar and select "Server Settings" for your Google account. Make sure the server is set to "talk.google.com" and the port is "5223."
- 7). Check the boxes beside "Connect Using SSL" and "Allow Self-Signed Certificates" and set "iChat" in the location field.
