Diabetes and Frailty. Part 1: Sarcopenia
In this first paper we have explored sarcopaenia and frailty as potential mediators of disability and lower limb muscle dysfunction in those with diabetes. We have also reviewed the factors that are important in the maintenance of skeletal muscle mass.
In Part 2, we examine further the potential influence of diabetes in the development of one or more frailty characteristics and attempt to schematically summarise their relationship.
Conclusions
