Verizon DSL Modem Requirements
- The modem receives the DSL signal from Verizon and transmits it to the router.dial up modem image by timur1970 from Fotolia.com
Verizon offers customers a small selection of modem/router devices for its high-speed Internet service. Verizon does not provide a separate modem with its service; Verizon issues routing modems, also called "gateways." These modems contain built-in routers. However, you may want a faster device with more features, or you may prefer to keep your modem separate from your router. If you prefer to use a separate modem and router for your Verizon connection, check the requirements first. - Get a standard ADSL modem that supports wireless networking for 802.11b, g, or n and data speeds of up 10Mbps. Almost all modems offer these minimum specifications; make your choice based on the manufacturer's warranty, ease of use and cost of the device.
- DSL data is transmitted through telephone lines. Verizon requires that you install DSL filters for all working telephone lines in your home or office. Failure to use filters will cause static and DSL connection problems.
- Verizon requires that a host computer connected to the modem must be turned on for other computers in the network to access the Internet.
