Temples in Kerala That Is Must See for Visitors

One of the things that has made Kerala favored destination of tourists and travelers is numerous Hindu temples that exist in the state.

Known as the land of pilgrimages, Kerala has a lot to offer in terms of religious tradition as well as architecture. Combined with the bounties of nature and unique architecture, pilgrimages in Kerala are visitor's delight.

€ Oldest Devi Temple in Kerala is the Kodungallor Bhagavathy temple. It is believed that the famous chera King of Kannagi, Cheran Chengutavan did set up this pilgrimage place.

€ Mallikarjuna temple located in the heart of Kasargod town is one of the oldest ones dedicated to Lord Shiva where the annual festival is celebrated during the month of March every year that attracts large number of devotees for five long days and is also famous for the popular dance Yakshagana.

€ Parthasarathy Temple is a famous one of Lord Krishna and is one of the ancient in the state. This is located on the bank of Pamba river in Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district. Unique feature of the temple is simple Kerala architecture. Location of this is near the venue of world famous boat race of Kerala.

Vishnu Temple in Kerala

One of the famous Vishnu Temples in Kerala is the Shree Padmanabhaswamy temple located in Thiruvantapuram. It is one of the 108 holy abodes of Lord Vishnu that has consistently added architectural designs over the passage of time and is a replica of famous Adiksavaperumal Temple of Thiruvattar. Principal deity of the temple, Padmanavaswamy is in the €Anantha Sayanam€ posture.

Sree Ayyappa Temple

Sabrimala Temple is one of the ancient as well as prominent Sastha pilgrimage in India. It is located in the Western Ghat mountain ranges of Pathanamthitta district in Kerala. Uniqueness of this revered destination is that it is open to all faiths and is the best known pilgrimage in Kerala. Usually the pilgrimage commences in the month of November and ends in the month of January.

Famous Temple of Guruvayur

Guruvayur Temple in Guirvayur town in Kerala is one of the most important places and is referred as €Bhuloka Vaikuntha€ by the devotees. It is considered to be the €holy abode of Lord Vishnu on earth€. Idol that is installed in the temple is of Lord Krishna with four arms and one of them carrying the conch Panchajanya, Sudarshan Chakra, mace named Kaumodaki, and a lotus.

A couple of other famous Hindu revered places in Kerala are Vadakkumnathan Temple of Shiva in Thrissur and Annapurneswari Temple around 14 Kilometer frok Kunnoor, Navamukunda Temple in Thirunavaya. Many other such revered and famous places are scattered throughout the length and breadth of the state.
