Common Understanding of Acne
Acne is a condition almost everyone will experience in their lifetime. It can appear on a persons neck, face, shoulder, chest or back. Acne is a problem for more than 80% of adolescents and young adults but it eventually clears up completely or at least a little bit by the time adolescents reach their twenties and thirties. Sometimes in rare cases, acne can continue on well past the twenties and become a type of skin diseases.
Some symptoms of acne occur when the facial hair follicles are clogged and the pores eventually will be raised and will become blackheads or whiteheads. Comedones are what they are called and are considerably a mild type of acne and is classified as non-inflammatory acne. Open comedones are blackheads while closed comedones are whiteheads.
The exact cause of acne is unknown but there are some factors that can be linked to it's appearance. Genetics can be a cause seeing as that when the parents have had acne, the children usually develops them also. Hormonal activity includes puberty and the monthly menstrual cycle for women. Accumulation of dead skin cells, improper skin care or exposure to dust and dirt will cause the pores to clog. Also a type of bacteria in the pores called (propionibacterium acnes) irritates the skin and can cause acne.
There is no method that will totally reduce the chances of developing acne but their are certain ways to do certain things that will slightly reduce the risk of acne such as washing the face twice a day, using cosmetics that are noncomedogenic and nonacnegenic, avoiding the use of oily pomades and hair gels, exercising regularly, drinking plenty of water and avoiding stress.
Often time acne will leave small scars that appears usually on the temple or cheeks and can be deep or superficial. Some scars resemble chicken pox scars while others give the skin a wave like appearance. The most common and classic sign of acne scarring is known as ice pick scars. Most people have a bad habit of picking and squeezing their acne spots causing more inflammation and scarring. That has never worked as an acne treatment but certain creams containing ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide usually have antibacterial formulas to prevent the spread of acne.
Various studies have shown that a person with acne have lower levels of vitamin A circulating in their bloodstream than people who are acne free. In addition people with a severe case of acne also have lower blood levels of vitamin E.
Acne can lead to other serious problems such as psychological problems. One may do poorly in public or in the work place because they are self conscious about their acne. Although there is more than one way to treat a recurring acne problem, one of the best things a person can do, especially if they have a bad case of acne, is to learn as much as one can so that one can treat the recurring acne problem to the best of their abilities.
