Capital Crescent Trail

Want a new bike trail to try your wheels on? I have a great one for you to try out with you and your family! It is called the "Capital Crescent Trail.
" This trail is located between DC and Maryland, only about 11 miles long.
 It is really popular, so if you want to avoid the crowds try and go during the week days.
  History The railroad that the trail was built over was built in 1892, but took forever to complete (almost twenty years).
However, like many states, instead of just wasting abandoned rail lines, this community decided to build a bike trail on the railroad grade to help develop tourism in their area.
A relatively new trail, it was finally opened in 1996, and has been growing in popularity every since.
 There were many hiccups in the trail's history, including arson and fire of several of the bridges along the trail.
Because it was built over the railroad, the county had to repairs the trestles and tunnels that were built into the room.
The Trail 11 miles may not seem like a long trail, doing down and back can give you a good work out.
 Even if you do get hit with the crowds, the trail is over ten feet wide, mostly asphalt, so you can weave when you come upon a slow group, or move aside for more experienced bikers.
The trail also is equipped with all the comforts of a public trails-water fountains, bathrooms, and picnic benches.
 You will need to bring your bike helmet as the trail is carefully patrolled.
With great views over the Potomac River, you will get all the beautiful views that you require in a bike trip, with plenty of places to stop.
 For the kids there is lots of information on the history of the rail line, as well as the surrounding area.
  Rail-to-Trail Rail-to-trails have become extremely popular in the US, because as the railroad system is fading out; there is already this great path at a wonderful grade, pre-made.
 The costs are minimal, and can always be made longer to accommodate more money and user numbers.
