I Want Some Orange Color in My Kitchen & Am Looking for Ideas

Adding orange color to your kitchen can seem like a daunting prospect because of the color's bold nature. Depending on your design tastes, however, you can add orange in a variety of places to suit any type of style and budget. Because orange makes a bold statement, ensure that you are satisfied with the shade you choose before making large outlays of cash on decor updates.

    Cabinets

    • When you want a bold, bright statement, paint your cabinet doors in orange, which works particularly well in a white kitchen because the contrast between the two colors will create a fresh, open look. For a smaller statement, simply paint the drawer fronts orange. If you are not ready for the commitment of orange cabinets, use a stencil to add a bit of color as an accent.

    Appliances and Stools

    • If you are looking to add orange without redoing your basic kitchen design, buy colored appliances or stools. Stools, because they are situated below eye level, add a more subtle pop of color while appliances can add a touch of style without overwhelming the room. A pumpkin-orange color works particularly well for appliances because it can give the room a warm, autumnal feeling and will not clash with a natural color palette.

    Accent Wall

    • By adding an orange accent wall to your kitchen, you can update the room without making expensive changes to appliances, furniture or flooring. For more color, use a wall with more open space; for a less-dramatic statement, use the wall behind your cabinets and stove as the canvas. You might also paint the upper part of one wall orange and install white wainscoting on the bottom half. When choosing orange paint, get samples first so that you can gauge how the shade will work with the lighting, furniture and trim of your kitchen.

    Accents

    • For a low-commitment way to add orange to your kitchen, use accents to add pops of color around the room, which is useful if you rent your home and cannot modify the walls or cabinets. You might put orange place mats on the table, for example, or use dishtowels, flowers or wall art. Buy a set of orange plates and hang them on the wall in a plate rack, pile orange squash in a bowl on the countertop, add orange tie-on cushions to your chairs or invest in a set of orange pots and pans.
