Good Cleaner for Laminate Floors

    Brooms and Vacuum Cleaners

    • Sweeping laminate floors regularly with either a broom or vacuum cleaner will remove the loose residue that builds up regularly. Sweeping is important, because grit can be tramped into the laminate and cause scratches and indentations. Use a vacuum without a beater bar, because the bar can indent your laminate panels.

    Homemade Cleaner

    • Damp mop the floors regularly using water, or mop the laminate with a mixture of 1 gallon water and 1 cup white vinegar. The vinegar works well for disinfecting and thorough cleaning, while water works well for removing sticky buildup.

    Glass Cleaner

    • Glass cleaner also works well as a fast and inexpensive cleaning solution. Laminate floors have a gloss finish, and glass cleaners can pull out the shine. To use glass cleaner, spray a light mist over the laminate, and wipe it off immediately with a dry mop or soft cleaning rag. Allow the floor to air-dry.

    Items to Avoid

    • Do not use bleach or any other harsh chemicals on your laminate flooring, because these can discolor the laminate and eat through the floor's finish. Use a minimal amount of moisture on the laminate when cleaning to prevent swelling of the wood and water stains.
