DIY SEO 03 Use Meta Tags and Content to get higher Google rankings
DIY Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) on the Gold Coast- a primer on how to use Meta Tags and webpage Content to help boost your Google ranking.
This series was written with Search Engine Optimisation Gold Coast in mind though the tips inside will work anywhere in the world.
Google uses over 200 factors in judging how sites are ranked each time a visitor searches for information. They pride themselves on getting the most relevant information first and so you want to make your site as relevant as possible. Here are some steps you can do by yourself to help increase ranking.
In today's Search Engine Optimisation primer you'll briefly hear about utilising your primary keywords in Meta Tags, Content, and Main Text.
Firstly you'll need your keywords which you researched earlier- a combination of keywords, keyword phrases, and long tail keywords. It's fine to use more then 6 sets but for clarity and consistency you'll want only six to be your key key words.
The main body of the text should have your main keyword(s) on it (eg. Gold Coast and Search Engine Optimisation) as keywords. If you have multiple pages it's best to target each page with differing keywords (eg. SEO and Queensland) so as to not dilute your results on any one of the pages but to spread it out over all of them. In this way you can target different keyword subsections on different pages (say Gold Coast SEO and Search Engine Optimisation providers in Queensland) while still being true to the nature of your pages and the content on them.
This also means you get more then one bite of the Google cherry and Google can have more then one bite of your websites pie. For example your main page may focus on "Gold Coast Plumbers" while a different page inside your site would focus on "Plumbing Services on the Gold Coast". Having multiple pages allows for better Search Engine Optimisation and gives people a better chance to find your site no matter where in the Gold Coast (or around the world) you are.
If Google thinks additional pages inside your site are relevant it will display them indented under the most relevant page from your site. So Google may display your first page with the title of "Search Engine Optimisation on the Gold Coast" and indented under that may may a sub page titled "Search Engine Optimisation providers on the Gold Coast".
A page with one or two keywords on specific and related things (say Gold Coast and SEO) will rank better on a search then a page with 3 or 4 (say Gold Coast, SEO, Search Engine Optimisation, and ranking). Have each page focus on one or two to maximise your website's macro effectiveness. On a micro level have a 5% to max 7% keyword saturation (which means 1 keyword or phrase every 20 words).
In summary- overall Search Engine Optimisation results are more potent if separately focused.
By using your keywords as headers you give them a slightly larger value, some say bolding or underlined your keywords may also boost their significance but more people disagree and say it's a red flag for Google Spam detector. Be careful not to alienate your audience (or the spiders) by doing it more than twice on each page.
There are many ways to adjust your site to improve it's ranking on search engines in the Gold Coast and across the world but for mass effect and to reach more people then those who are simply searching on Google you should extend your exposure and that's where we come in.
