How to Foam Milk

    • 1). Pour 1 1/2 times the amount of milk you need for your beverage into a steam pitcher. Use cold milk for the best results.

    • 2). Dip the tip of the steam nozzle on your espresso machine into the milk. Make sure the entire tip is fully submerged in the milk.

    • 3). Turn the steam on. Hold the steam pitcher by the handle and avoid touching the sides or bottom of the pitcher because this can cause burns.

    • 4). Move the wand around in the milk to warm up the liquid for several seconds. Position the tip of the wand right beneath the surface of the milk to begin creating the foam.

    • 5). Slide the tip gently around, slightly beneath the surface of the milk. The steam should not make large bubbles in the milk; it should froth into a fine foam right above the surface.

    • 6). Continue steaming the milk until the temperature reaches between 160 to 180 degrees F. If the temperature is higher than 180 degrees F, the milk will begin to sour and taste burnt.
