How to Fix a QuickTime Movie
- 1). Re-download or re-export the .mov video file. If the video file was not downloaded or exported properly, it will not run on QuickTime, causing the media player to release an error prompt every time you try to play the video. Downloading or exporting (if you created the video in a video editing program) the file again can correct the error. However, if the file you downloaded was not created properly by the user, there is nothing you can do to fix the issue.
- 2). Obtain the latest version of QuickTime. If you press "Play," and the audio plays but there is no video, this may be a sign that the latest video codecs are not installed on your computer. Navigate to the QuickTime download page on Apple's Web site and download the latest version of the free media player. This comes with the latest video and audio codecs, correcting the dropped video issue.
- 3). Click the audio control option in the lower corner of QuickTime. If the volume is muted on the program, you will not hear the content of the video.
- 4). Close QuickTime and restart it. Occasionally, QuickTime can stumble upon itself, which is typically caused by trying to open the media player multiple times in succession. Closing out the program and restarting it corrects most issues you'll run into.
