How Do I Add Creditors to My Chapter 7 Bankruptcy?

    • 1). Create a list of every creditor you have. Pull copies of your credit report to get information on any creditor who appears on your credit report and note account numbers, creditor names and addresses and account balances. Review your own personal information for additional creditors that may not appear on your credit report, such as book of the month clubs and other places to which you owe money. Include places such as medical and dental accounts that may have outstanding balances but have not yet been reported to credit agencies.

    • 2). Review your Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing as it was supplied to and filed with the courthouse. Compare your comprehensive list of creditors against those you listed on the bankruptcy filing and make sure that every one has been included. Start a second list for creditors you find not to be listed on the filing and make notes about the creditor such as name, address, account number and account balance.

    • 3). Contact you attorney to request an addendum to your Chapter 7 filing. Contact the courthouse where you filed your initial bankruptcy paperwork if you are not using an attorney. You will need to add the additional creditors to the initial list supplied when you first filed for bankruptcy protection.

    • 4). Pay the additional filing fees to the court as required, since adding additional creditors means that your entire petition will have to be refiled with the court system. Understand that all creditors listed will be contacted, as they have the right to dispute your claim to have your debts discharged under a Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
