The Best Edisto Rentals

While many folks look for the lights, glitter and night life of beach front resort towns, those of us with families - especially younger children, want somewhere safe and fun.
And while the adult fun should not be overlooked, having a place that can provide long-lasting family memories is a great place to start when looking for a beach vacation rental.
And, topping our list of the best places to go is Edisto Beach in South Carolina...
and finding the best Edisto rentals can be easy if you know where to look.
But first, for those of you unfamiliar with the island, let's take a closer look.
Family Fun Edisto Beach is the barrier island component of Edisto Island.
Located about 45 minutes south of Charleston, it is a typical low-country beach where the locals are friendly, seafood is awesome, and the Oak-lined roads take you back hundreds of years.
Though there are hundreds of homes, there are few residents.
Most rentals are second homes or vacation houses of families who live nearby (usually within a 6-hour drive or so).
So, during the off-season, there is little activity.
But, during the spring summer and fall, its a great place to be, especially if your priorities are safety, fun and relaxation.
And fun you will get.
In a location where fishing, family bingo, and crafts are the main attractions, family fun is all around.
Walks on miles of beaches, watching dolphins and birds play, and hunting for shark's teeth can bring young and old together and allow for a truly memorable vacation.
Rental Options There are hundreds of homes to choose from as well as small efficiencies and condominiums.
Near the marina there are sound-front condos and several near the entrance to the island.
But for the best Edisto rentals, look to the many homes on the sound, beach-front and on the interior.
Though many of the "original" homes built in the 1940's are still available, most have been or are being torn-down and replaced by newer, modern designs.
A good example is Cerulean, a modern-design 3,000 sq/ft home built in 2007.
It has all the amenities you would find in an upper-end resort, but is directly on the beach.
Like many homes designed for rental it sleeps 10-12 guests and has HD large screen TV for the kids and for movie-watching.
It is nestled among several of the original cottages, but represents the careful replacement by new home owners.
With that said, this transformation modernizes but does not transform.
My family and I have been visiting there for over 25 years and it still has the yesteryear charm it always has had - one small grocery store, a gas station, and a couple of great little restaurants make it the place I want my children to remember and cherish!
