Sovereignty

• The Seminoles and Miccosukee tribes are recognized as nations with independent authority over their reservation lands. The Seminole tribe has six reservation areas in South Florida and is governed by a tribal council, which includes representatives from each reservation. The Miccosukee tribe has three reservation areas in South Florida and is governed by the General Council, an assembly consisting of adult tribe members and headed by elected officers.
  
  

Culture

• The Florida Indian tribes showcase elements of their culture at special Indian villages and museums open to the public. At the Seminole Okalee Indian Village visitors can learn more about life in Seminole villages and traditional crafts. At the Miccosukee Indian Village visitors can experience elements of Miccosukee culture by watching artisans work and tasting traditional foods.
  
  

Gaming

• The Florida Indian tribes own a number of casinos where visitors can play bingo, poker and gaming machines. The Miccosukee tribe has one gaming location, Miccosukee Resort & Gaming in Miami, while the Seminole Tribe has six: Coconut Creek Casino in Coconut Creek, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, Seminole Bingo Casino in Brighton, Hollywood Seminole Gaming in Hollywood, Seminole Gaming Immokalee in Immokalee and Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood.
