How to Use Levels to Increase Blur in Photoshop

    • 1). Launch Photoshop and drag and drop your original image into the workspace. Alternatively, click the "File" menu at the top of the screen, select "Open" and locate your image.

    • 2). Click the "Select" menu at the top of the screen, followed by "Select All." A marquee will be created around the entire perimeter of your image.

    • 3). Open the "Edit" menu and select "Copy." Open the "Edit" menu a second time and select "Paste." This creates a new, identical layer above your original image.

    • 4). Select "Gaussian Blur" from the "Blur" section in the "Filters" menu, and use the slider bar to determine how blurred you want your image to be. Click "OK" to apply the filter.

    • 5). Open the "Image" menu, followed by "Adjustments," and select "Levels." Slide the small black arrow beneath the "Input Levels" graph to the right, and the small white arrow to the left, bringing them closer together. This narrows the changes in the image's light levels, increasing the blurriness. Adjust the two arrows until the image is appropriately blurry, and click the "OK" button.

    • 6). Select "Soft Light" from the "Blend Modes" drop-down menu in the "Layers" panel. The changes to the upper layer will now be overlaid onto the original image, increasing its blurriness.

    • 7). Click the "File" menu and select "Save As." Navigate to a location on your computer where you want to save the new image, select a file format from the "Format" menu, and click the "Save" button.
