The Raid: Redemption
Recently, I watched a movie titled The Raid: Redemption. It was an Indonesian action movie about an elite squad of police officers sent into an apartment complex to capture a crime lord.
The movie focuses on Rama, a rookie officer, who joined the police to search for his estranged brother. The squad enters the building seemingly unnoticed. All things go according to plan, until they reach the sixth floor where a young lookout sees the officers and manages to alert the crime lord, Tama Riyadi. Tama then puts the apartment on lockdown and announces over the speakers that anyone who kills the officers will be allowed permanent residence. This sends the criminals into a frenzy as many bring out weapons and search for the intruders.
The squad is forced to split up and keep themselves alive. Rama and several other officers begin to have doubts about the operation and question Lieutenant Wahyu.
He eventually informs them that the mission is not officially sanctioned by the force. To make matters worse, no one knows where they are and there will be no back-up. Here their desperate struggle begins as the only way out is through Tama and to reach him, they must fight through hordes of henchmen. Tama also sends out several of his top men into the fray. The group Rama joins is picked off by the tenants, forcing Rama to fight his for his survival. He manages to kill the approaching gang, but not without sustaining injuries.
To escape another gang, he takes the body of the fallen leader to use as cover and leaps out a window to another floor. On this floor, he meets with his missing brother, Andi. His brother helps him into hiding before returning to Tama with Mad Dog. Tama realizes Andi's betrayal and turns him over to Mad Dog who confines him to cell and fights him. Rama eventually regroups with the surviving two members of the squad and they fight their way through a narcotics lab.
Rama finds Andi once mores and assists him in the fight against Mad Dog. Rama and Andi find that Wahyu has taken Tama hostage and seeks to get a promotion and better standing within the force. Tama laughs at his delusions and taunts him by revealing that he has been waiting for Wahyu's squad and that Wahyu has been set up by his corrupt higher-ups. Wahyu kills Tama and attempts suicide only to realize the gun has no bullets. Andi takes charge of the apartment complex and secures Rama's departure. He leaves his brother and complex behind with Wahyu arrested. Rama walks toward an unsure future with the promise of Andi watching over him as the new crime boss.
I used my Esycast mobile accessory for online TV streaming to watch the movie straight from my Netflix on my pad to my TV. The picture was HD quality and I did not have to use any wires as it works like a wifi hotspot or wifi router.
