Removing Old Paint Splatters From Stained Varnished Wood

    • 1). Moisten a clean cloth with an acetone-based paint thinner or remover. Use a thinner formulated for use on wood floors.

    • 2). Rub the thinner into the paint splatter, reapplying as necessary until all the paint is saturated. Avoid spreading the thinner or thinned paint onto unmarred wood surfaces, as the thinner can remove the permanent finish on the floors.

    • 3). Slide a plastic putty knife beneath the softened paint splatter. Lift the paint from the floor. Avoid scraping, as this can cause deep scratches in the wood.

    • 4). Scrub the floor with a mildly abrasive cleaning pad to remove any remaining paint speckles from the surface. Wipe the floor with a clean, dry cloth to remove any residue left behind.

    • 5). Mop the floor with your preferred wood cleaner. Refinish or stain the floor, if necessary.
