Home Food Dehydrators Stainless Or Plastic - Part 5
In article part 4 we looked at stainless steel home food dehydrators abilities and saw that they stepped it up a notch or two.
In this article we look at having a Plastic or Stainless Steel Dehydrator in the home and actually using one.
I guess this is where the rubber hits the road.
You can get a dehydrator as cheap or as expensive as you want, but using it on a recurring basis is the most important consideration.
A plastic dehydrator will weigh on a wide range.
This is to be expected.
The different shapes and number of trays with the units will affect the overall weight.
Here are three examples of the range.
• Nesco / American Harvest Gardenmaster Dehydrator & Jerky Maker 29 lbs • LEQUIP Food Dehydrator 7Lbs.
• GooD4U 10 tray food dehydrator with 40 digital timer 16 Lbs The weights of the machines are with the trays all stacked up on the machine.
The base unit's weights are not available for comparison.
Even the Gardenmaster is the heaviest because of all the trays.
So you would not be picking up 29 plus pounds at one time.
The Stainless Steel dehydrators on the other hand are stout.
The Weston is 46 lbs.
This is not a piece of equipment that you would want to move around a lot.
The Excalibur is 150 lbs, also not easily moveable.
Now please understand the construction of these out of steel should indicate that these are not light weights.
While the Weston can be moved the Excalibur is a quality piece of equipment met to be located in a single spot and hard wired.
In the next article part 6, we will look at the cost of the different units and do a comparison.
This will be an eye opener.
