- 1). Set up or find a situation to photograph where light plays a central role. Light can be natural or set up.
- 2). Point your camera towards the subject with the camera set to automatic. Take note of the aperture and shutter speed in the light meter. These are the settings required for taking a standard photograph of the particular subject with the particular light availability.
- 3). Set your camera to manual. Overexpose photographs by setting the shutter speed slightly slower than the noted amount or by opening the aperture slightly larger. Both methods will let in a little extra light. Try a few, different shots. Try a couple just adjusting the shutter speed, try a couple just adjusting the aperture and try a couple adjusting both the shutter speed and the aperture.
