So You Want to Be a Real Estate Investor?
I've noticed over the last couple of years that the interest in real estate investing has sky-rocketed. All of the late-night infomercials about "flipping" houses or foreclosure sales leave people to believe that, "You can become rich overnight!" I've -come across countless individuals who've retired from their day job to pursue real estate investing full-time. There's nothing wrong with this, by all means. Anything you may have heard could be 100% true, even the testimonials. The problem comes into play when people only see the rainbow and pots of gold (money), but not the road it is going to take to get there (hard work).
I'm sure most of you have heard the expression, "Hard work = success," and I hold this to be true. I, myself, acted upon the notion of being a real estate investor after I saw the profit potential, but failed to grasp an understanding what it's going to take to reach it.
Dreams don't make money, but putting those dreams into motion do.
Therefore, it wasn't until I took a good look at what I was getting myself into that I realized, "Look, the only way I can make a sufficient life for myself and my family is to work harder." Simple as that. All of things you see on television do not portray an accurate image of what you have to do. There's really work involved. You can't expect the money to just fall in your lap.
Now, if you've gone to seminars, read books, listened to tapes, watched videos, joined your local real estate investors club, or even found a mentor, trust me, you're on the right track. Just remember that that's only one of many hurdles you must jump to reach your first success deal. Don't let this article overwhelm you at all. The point of this article is for you to take a look at what you've been doing and ask yourself, "Do I really want to be a real estate investor?"
Some days are going to be stressful. There are going to be plenty of days when you feel frustrated, unmotivated, and/or just flat-out stressed. By sticking to your goals and working towards your dreams, you will have those better days. You will go to the closing tables. You will cash those checks. You will be able to support yourself and your family. It's only a matter of time. Good luck to you in your business endeavors.
