DIY: Fashion Show
- 1). Hold a meeting to discuss the event with your fellow fashion show crew and assign duties to each person. If possible, assign the tasks of publicity, stage designer, emcee and wardrobe specialist. Plan the event from beginning to end; work out all the roles you need filled, including set-up and take-down.
- 2). Choose a theme. Tie it in with your organization’s motto or purpose, or with the season during which you are holding the show. Choose music to accompany your show that works with your theme.
- 3). Secure a location. Find a location with a stage or catwalk already, so you don't have to build your own, plus an area for dressing and a sound system. Find out how many people can occupy the space you rent so you know how many tickets you can sell.
- 4). Obtain clothing for your show. Ask students from a design school or university to donate or showcase items, or ask around at local fashion boutiques. Assure your donors that you will give them publicity for their participation, and return any loaned items in the condition in which they were given.
- 5). Find models to walk in your show. Consider their sizes and the clothes you have to model. You do not need professional models; many high school or college students will likely be willing to perform as volunteers for a good cause.
- 6). Hold a dress rehearsal. Work out any kinks in the show by doing a run-through. Keep the show moving and decide when and where your models will pose or coach them on walking.
- 7). Advertise and generate interest through word of mouth, flyers or even radio advertisements. Follow up with the local television stations or newspapers.
