Downsizing Trend
- During 1980s and 1990s, as a reaction to economic slowdown, many U.S. companies reorganized themselves through layoffs. Companies such as General Motors, AT&T, IBM and others adopted this strategy, which again became more common during the recessions that followed the bursting of the dotcom bubble and the September 11 terrorist attacks and the global financial crisis.
