Dining Etiquette

• Diners must observe certain rules at the dinner table are necessary in Chinese culture, or else the chef may take offense. It is considered rude to play with chopsticks or to stab them unnecessarily into your bowl. It is also offensive to leave food on your plate. However, it is standard behavior to eat with an open mouth or to talk with a full mouth.
  
  

The Dragon

• The dragon is perhaps the most powerful, respected and lucky symbol of Chinese culture. It represents immortality, fertility, happiness and prosperity. The dragon is widely used to decorate buildings, chairs, jewelry, statues and clothing. In the early days of China, the dragon was considered a god and a guardian. The phoenix, a mystical bird, is often seen with dragons.
  
  

Clothing Colors

• Certain outfits and colors are worn for different occasions. Dark-colored clothes are traditionally worn to special events and ceremonies. Lighter shades are typical for more casual wear, especially at home. Colors are considered seasonal and are worn to represent the weather. For example, the color red is worn in June and July to represent heat.
