4 Things You Didn"t Know You Could Do With a Point and Shoot Camera

Many people feel as though they have to have a fancy DSLR camera in order to take good pictures.
Fortunately, this is not true.
It is possible to take great pictures with a DSLR, a point and shoot, or even a camera phone.
What makes a great picture are practice, creativity, and a willingness to experiment.
Fortunately, this means that it is still possible to take great pictures with a point and shoot camera.
Additionally, many point and shoot cameras can do more than most people realize.
Here are four things that you probably did not know your point and shoot camera could do.
If you are having difficulty figuring out any of these functions, it is best to check your owner's manual for more specific instructions.
Many people know that their camera has a timer function, but few know how to use it.
The timer function allows you to set up the camera and press the shutter release without taking the picture immediately.
This allows you anywhere from ten to thirty seconds to get yourself into the picture.
However, in addition to the timer function many point and shoot cameras have a function for what is known as burst shooting.
This allows you to push the shutter release once and take several different pictures one after the other.
This is a function that professional photographers often use for sports games or other action shots.
You can set the burst mode, wait until the action is about to happen, then press the shutter release.
The camera will take several pictures and you can choose the best one or two when you edit on the computer.
Many point and shoot cameras have a wide variety of artistic shooting modes.
These may or may not produce stellar photography, but they can be fun to play with.
Some common modes are sepia, black and white, and pop art.
These modes will change the settings on the camera so that different effects happen when you take the picture.
Taking the same picture in a wide variety of modes will give you an idea of the different ways that photographs can be changed simply by changing a few settings.
Many people have trouble taking pictures in bright sunlight or in buildings with fluorescent light, and do not know how to fix it.
The truth is that most point and shoot cameras offer a way to adjust the white balance on the camera.
The white balance on most cameras is set to automatic, but it is possible to change it to bright sunlight, cloudy, or fluorescent lighting.
Changing the white balance will adjust the way that the camera takes the picture and can often compensate for very bright sunlight or fluorescent lighting.
Lastly, a point and shoot camera often allows you to look at and edit pictures in the camera.
This is helpful if you have limited memory space or are trying to capture a particular shot.
A quick look at the lcd screen will tell you if you captured your shot or need to try again.
This also allows you to delete pictures in camera so that you can conserve memory space if necessary.
