Magnification

• Watches are small; therefore magnification and a well-lit area are needed. The magnification can be from a desk mounted combination lamp with magnifying glass, a wearable magnifying glass or a loupe, a hand-held devise.
  
  

Measurement

• Due to the small nature of watches, there are measurement tools that use inches and millimeters. Gauges are used when there is a need to know the inside and outside dimensions of a part.
  
  

Screw Drivers

• Screws and screw drivers are available in millimeter sizes such as 80 hundredths of one or two millimeters.
  
  

Pliers and Tweezers

• Certain watch parts require the use of flat nose pliers which have a flat end. Along with this category are tweezers. These can be plastic, brass or other metal with beveled edges. These are available in assorted sizes as well as a non-magnetic type.
  
  

Opening the Case

• There are specialized case openers associated with different models. A watch knife opener can be utilized for opening cases that are waterproof.
  
  

Pins, Hands and Bands

• Pins are used in watches for holding parts together like watch band links. To remove them, a pin pusher is used. There are also pin punches and vices. More specialized tools are used for pins that are not easily accessed.
  Ball peen hammers are used for rivets and for inserting pins.
  Watch hand removers take off the watch hands. A hand press is used for installing hands.
  A block is used to hold bands in place while work is done.
  
  

Tools used for Prevention

• Cleaning a watch can be done with a brush. Grease is used for a seal to keep moisture out. Watch oil is used for lubrication.
