Removing Cigarette Smoke Odors With a Rug Doctor

    • 1). Fill an empty spray bottle with white vinegar.

    • 2). Spray your carpet with the vinegar. Don't saturate it. Instead, leave a light mist on the carpet. Allow it to soak in for 20 minutes.

    • 3). Mix 1 cup Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaner into 2 gallons of hot water.

    • 4). Pull the restraining wire downward on the Rug Doctor machine and remove the white tank that lies on the upper portion of the machine.

    • 5). Pour the cleaning solution into the lower reservoir.

    • 6). Replace the upper tank and pull the restraining wire back up to secure the tank.

    • 7). Switch the machine on.

    • 8). Press the red thumb switch as you slowly pull the Rug Doctor machine backwards in a straight line along your carpet. Pull at a rate of about 1 foot every two seconds.

    • 9). Release the thumb switch about 6 inches before you reach the end of the carpet section that you are cleaning.

Tilt the Rug Doctor backward and push the machine forward to begin a new cleaning path. Overlap the old cleaning path by 2 inches.

Allow the carpet to air dry. Turn on fans if possible. Opening the windows can also help to dry the carpet and clear out any lingering odors.
