How to Deal With Anxiety
Whenever I get an anxiety attack, although my doctor tells me it is not one, I try to ignore it.
Then, I just go about my business and it goes away.
It usually comes because I am tired.
Usually it surfaces during work or vigorous exercise.
The first time I had one was in 1999, I think.
I was working at McDonalds, my first ever job, and I went in to work after being hired.
This was my first shift.
I started working and it was so noisy.
I could not take it.
There was beeps going on and the fryer was beeping and background noise was going on and I just could not take it.
I ended my shift after an hour and just went home.
I quit that day.
Then, I would get these anxiety attacks down the road and it scared me.
I did not know what to do.
But, now when I get an anxiety attack, 11 years later, it is not a problem.
I just go about my business and everything is fine.
I do tend to think slower when I have an anxiety attack and I get sweaty hands and my eyes will flutter if I close them.
But, if someone saw me during this they would not know that I am having an anxiety attack.
They would not be able to tell because I can still talk and move all my body parts.
There is no way to know I am having an anxiety attack unless you have seen me with an anxiety attack and then without.
There is a slight difference.
I will not smile as much.
I walk a bit slower.
But the thinking part, when my thoughts are slower, no one can tell.
And this is what you have to tell yourself.
That no one knows you are having an anxiety.
And just keep saying to yourself "everything is alright, everything is alright..
" Each time I get an anxiety attack it gets a little easier to handle.
I will challenge myself at times.
When I have an anxiety attack I will try to go to martial arts even if I have an anxiety attack.
I will try to do things I would normally do even if I have the anxiety.
I will try to stay up longer and do some reading or listen to music.
Usually when I have an anxiety attack at work I just go quiet and just talk to the customers when they come in and I will not talk to my co-worker.
When I go home, I just eat something and that usually helps.
Sometimes doing the dishes will get rid of the anxiety.
You just need to get your mind off your anxiety.
Focusing on your breathing also helps.
Just count your breaths.
In and out as one and count your breath up to 10 and then start over again.
This works while closing your eyes too.
Good luck! Do not let your anxiety conquer you.
Conquer the anxiety and overcome it.
