Heat Transfer Press Instructions

    • 1). Print the image you want to put on the garment or item. See the heat-transfer paper's instructions for which type of ink works best.

    • 2). Plug in the heat-transfer press into a grounded electrical outlet. Note that 120-volt presses require a 7.5-amp grounded circuit, and 240-volt presses require a 15-amp grounded circuit.

    • 3). Open the heat-transfer press so its platens are in the open position. Push the power button.

    • 4). Locate the temperature adjustment knob. Set the temperature specified in the transfer paper instructions. Wait at least 15 minutes for the press to reach the desired temperature.

    • 5). Locate the pressure adjustment knob, and turn it to increase or decrease the pressure. Remember to allow for the thickness of the printable garment or item.

    • 6). Set the countdown timer on the press according to the instructions provided with the transfer paper. Note that the countdown timer on many models of heat-transfer presses can be set for between one and 99 seconds.

    • 7). Position the printable garment or item in the center of the bottom platen. Position the transfer paper over the printable garment or item according to the instructions included with the transfer paper.

    • 8). Use the lever on the press to move the platens into the press position. Note that lowering the platens into press position automatically starts the countdown timer on some models, while other models require you to press a "Start" button near the countdown timer buttons.

    • 9). Wait for the countdown alarm to sound. Then use the lever to move the platens back into the open position. Peel the transfer paper from the garment or item according to the transfer paper instructions. Note that some types of transfer paper instruct you to remove the paper while the item is still hot, while others instruct you to let it cool first.
