First Day Blues

First day at school is the most important time in your kid's education life. It is also special foe every parent because you will start to dream so much of your child's future and today is the start. Other kids may have separation anxiety with mommy during the first day. Do not worry because it is normal. Your little tot is just as tensed as mommy. So to prevent this happening, parents have to prepare for the big day, the first day. Here are simple steps to help you out and your kid to overcome the first day blues:

1. Visit the school
Weeks before the opening of classes, visit the school regularly. Introduce your kid to the new environment. Let him meet his teacher to create familiarity. Bring him to the school playground to let him know that he can have playtime during school breaks and he will be able to meet new friends along the way. Visit the school clinic, comfort rooms, library and his classroom. Let him talk about that he thinks of his school and the facilities.

2. Go Shopping
Bring your little kid to a small shopping spree. Let him choose his new shoes and set of new clothes. Buy him a new bag and a colorful lunch box. Let him be in charge of everything. Make a list the night before you go out for shopping and let him choose among the different racks of clothes up to the undershirts he is going to use. It is important to make him feel responsible of everything regarding school.

3. Snack Ideas
Eating the same snack every day will bore your child. Create recipes together with him for his snacks at school. He might have other ideas to contribute. At least he will be eating something he wants to eat. But always make sure that they are still nutritious and healthy. You might want to cook for two during the first day to let him share his snack to his new friends.

4. Arrange Transportation
Arrange for a school bus to take your child to and from the school. It is alright if you want to bring him to school on the first day to prevent him from feeling alone. Make sure that he will ride the service bus in the succeeding days because it is a way of being independent and at ease at school.

5. First Day
Be with him on the first day. Start the day with a hearty breakfast to prep him up for the activities the whole day. Make sure that his things are all prepared the night before to prevent wasting of time looking for things he is going to wear the next day. It is also a way of making a pattern. Bring him to school and assure him that you are just outside if he needs help. However, you cannot do this every day because you have other things to do also. Just make him feel that he is not alone during the first day. He will eventually meet new friends at school and you will be surprise how much he will enjoy waking up and preparing every day.
