How to Make a Bottle Rocket Car
- 1). Fit a cork into the mouths of both 20-oz. soda bottles. If the cork does not fit snugly, wrap it in tape and try again.
- 2). Attach the soda bottles to the toy cars using a strong, adhesive tape such as duct tape. Attach the bottles on the top of the cars so that the open ends point away from the cars. Give them a test roll to ensure the cars' wheels roll properly.
- 3). Measure 1 tsp. of baking soda and pour it into the center of a square of toilet paper. Wrap the toilet paper around the pile of baking soda and twist to ensure the baking soda packet does not easily unravel. Make a second baking soda packet.
- 4). Put on safety goggles before adding fuel to the bottle rockets. In one rocket, pour in 1 cup of lemon juice. In the other rocket, place the baking soda packet in the bottom of the rocket.
- 5). Drop the remaining baking soda packing in the lemon juice rocket. Fill the second rocket ¾ of the way full with vinegar. Quickly place the corks in both bottles. Place the rocket cars on the ground and stand back; the rockets will launch quickly on their own as the fuel reacts with the baking soda. See which fuel sends its car farther.
