How to Whiten Your Teeth in a Picture
- 1). Open your image editor and load the file you want to work on. Zoom in on the teeth area so it fills most of the computer screen.
- 2). Select the lasso tool from the toolbar and draw a rough selection around all the teeth. It doesn't have to be perfect because later you will create a mask to refine the selection.
- 3). Open the layers palette and select the "New Adjustment Layer" option. Select "Hue/Saturation" from the drop-down box. In the dialogue box that opens, select "Yellows" from the "Edit List" drop-down box. Move the "Saturation" slider all the way to the left. Ensure the "Preview" box is checked and increase the "Lightness" slider until the teeth appear the color you want. Don't worry if the gums and area surrounding them change as well. This will be corrected with a selection mask. Click "OK."
- 4). Select the Hue/Saturation layer mask in the layers palette. With the primarily black thumbnail image selected, click on "Edit > Fill" from the menu at the top of the screen. In the "Contents" drop-down box, select "Black." Click "OK" to accept. It will appear as if the work you have done has disappeared.
- 5). Select the brush tool and choose a small, feathered brush size that you can use to paint over the teeth. Make sure the foreground color is white and the background black. Use the brush tool to paint over the teeth. Lowering the opacity of the brush will lower the level of whiteness when painting. Increasing the opacity will have the opposite result.
- 6). Change the opacity of the Hue/Saturation layer in the layers palette if you want to make further adjustments to how white the teeth appear. As when using the brush, increasing opacity will increase whiteness and lowering the value will decrease it. When finished, save your work.
