Clobber

Definition: Clobber (verb) is used to describe a specific type of pottery embellishment: the painting of patches of overglaze on an already completed pot (generally imported from a different country), then re-firing it. Because the pottery is from a different culture, the colors used in the overglaze belong to a different color tradition, resulting in overglaze colors that generally clash with the pot's original glaze colors.

Examples: Clobbering was done during the late 1700's and through the 1800's to Chinese wares which had been exported to Japan.
