The Effects of Not Wearing Condoms
- One of the effects of not wearing a condom could result in an unwanted pregnancy. In this situation, it can be negative for both the parents and the unborn child. If a couple is not ready to have a child, whether it's because of financial or emotional reasons, it can have long-reaching effects. It may interrupt a parent's schooling depending on their age, it can cause undue financial stress for those not prepared to handle the expense of raising a child, and children are less likely to receive the care they need in the case of parents who are not ready or willing to have a child. If the woman chooses to terminate the pregnancy, it can have long-lasting emotional effects as well.
- Although condoms aren't 100 percent effective against all STDs, condoms can greatly reduce the risk of contracting one. Most particles the size of STD pathogens are sufficiently blocked by latex, including the particles contained in diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomoniasis. However, other STDs such as genital herpes, syphilis and HPV are primarily transmitted through contact with infected skin and the level of protection from condoms is lessened with these types of STDs.
- When used properly, condoms can be very effective in protecting against HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. One of the effects of not using a condom and engaging in sex with someone infected with HIV can ultimately result in death. It is the deadliest STD, but research on the effectiveness of latex condoms and preventing transmission of HIV is both comprehensive and conclusive and should be used whenever engaging in sexual activity. There are medications for AIDS, but there is currently no cure.

Using condoms can often extend the performance time for the man because it can reduce sensation and helps him last longer. In addition to protecting yourself against STDs, this effect can be another beneficial one for some couples.
