How to Color a Graphic Neon in Photoshop
- 1). Open Photoshop, pull down the "File" menu and click "Open." Navigate to a picture to color neon and double-click the file so it opens in the Photoshop workspace.
- 2). (Optional) Click the "Magnify" tool, located at the very bottom of the "Tools" palette on the left side of the screen, and zoom in on the area of the graphic to color neon.
- 3). Click the "Lasso" tool on the "Tools" palette and outline the part of the graphic to turn neon, such as someone's shirt or hair. When you see a parade of "marching ants," right-click the outline and select "Layer via Copy." Nothing changes in the picture, but if you look at the "Layers" palette on the right side of the screen, you'll see a new Layer 1 with your area selected. If you can't find the "Layers" palette, click the "Window" menu at the top of the screen and select "Layers."
- 4). Pull down the "Image" menu at the top of the screen, click "Adjustments" and click "Hue/Saturation." Move the "Saturation" bar all the way to the right; the farther to the right you go, the more vivid and neon the color of the selected area becomes.
- 5). Move the "Lightness" bar to the right; the farther to the right you move, the brighter the area becomes. Click "OK" when satisfied.
- 6). Pull down the "Filter" menu, click "Stylize" and select "Glowing Edges" from the submenu. Click "OK" and the selected area instantly turns into glowing neon bulbs, like a Las Vegas sign.
- 7). Click the small lines icon at the top-right of the "Layers" palette. Select "Flatten Image." Click the "File" menu, click "Save As" and type a new name for the image. Don't save it on top of the original or you will not be able to access the non-neon version again.
