Canon S5 IS Tips
- The PowerShot S5 IS allows you to take panoramic shots using the "Stitch Assist" feature. With "Stitch Assist," you take overlapping pictures of one subject that will later be placed together to form one larger, panoramic image. To use "Stitch Assist," place the camera in "Panoramic Image" mode and set the shooting sequence using the left and right arrow buttons. There are five different shooting directions: left to right, right to left, bottom to top, top to bottom and clockwise. All of the modes allow you to take up to 26 pictures, except for "Clockwise" which allows for four pictures.
After the shooting direction is set, take the first picture. The PowerShot S5 IS will set the exposure and white balance for the remaining shots based on the first shot. Using the LCD screen, overlap the first shot in the frame and take the second picture. Continue in this manner until all of the pictures are taken, and press "Set." - Certain conditions, such as a low light environment, make it difficult for the PowerShot S5 IS to focus on the subject. When this happens, use the manual focus to focus on the subject. The manual focus can be adjusted until the subject is in focus on the LCD screen. To set the manual focus, hold down the "MF" button and press the up and down arrow buttons to change the focus. An indicator will appear on the LCD screen letting you know the distance of the focus. When you are ready to take a shot, take a picture as normal. The manual focus will stay set until you turn it off by pressing the "MF" button again.
- The PowerShot S5 IS allows you to change the exposure settings so the subject of the photograph isn't too dark or bright. This is most useful when there is a large contrast between the subject of the shot and the background. If the background is bright, the exposure compensation should be raised. When the background is dark, the exposure compensation should be lowered. To adjust the exposure compensation, press the "+/-" button and change the value using the right and left arrow buttons. Experiment with the different exposure settings to get the desired result. When you want to resume taking pictures without exposure compensation, return the value to "0."
