How to Get Help With a Home Makeover
- 1). Survey your home to determine what needs repairing and replacing. Write your findings down on paper and categorize each item as a want or a need. Then, prioritize your list so that the most important things are at the top of your list and the least important things are at the bottom of your list.
- 2). Call or e-mail your local church or charities such as Habitat for Humanity and United Way to share your situation with them. They may be able to help you or to point you in the direction of an organization that can.
- 3). Ask friends and family members to donate time in helping you to renovate your home in exchange for a hot meal. If they know your situation, odds are that they will be willing to help you out.
- 4). Purchase materials from discount retailers such as Habitat for Humanity's ReStore. You can often find what you need at drastically reduced prices. If charities are helping you with your project, be sure to find out what they are purchasing so that you do not duplicate their efforts.
- 5). Follow through with friends, charities and others who may be helping you to double-check dates and times. When everyone arrives, prepare for hard work, take breaks as you go along and remember to send out thank-you notes once everything is done.
