How to Make Road Instrument Cases
- 1). Measure the physical dimensions of your instrument and other accessories you wish to include in the case. Arrange the items exactly how you would like them to be within the case before taking these measurements. Ensure that you measure the length, height and width of the instrument.
- 2). Purchase a durable plastic container or bin that is compatible with a lid and exceeds each of the measurements you took previously by at least five inches.
- 3). Obtain foam panels for use as a protective cushion within your case. Purchase panels ranging from one to two inches in thickness.
- 4). Using scissors or a sharp knife, cut the foam paneling to sizes matching the bottom and sides of the plastic container's interior faces. Glue the foam panels to their matching locations. Allow the glue to dry fully before continuing.
- 5). Place your instrument and accessories within the case, checking to make sure that the instrument fits snugly within the foam. Cut additional sections of foam to fill in the gaps created by the nonlinear contours of the instruments. Remove the instrument and glue these new foam additions to the interior panels.
- 6). Affix the handle to the side of the case by screwing the mounting screws directly into the plastic and foam using the screwdriver. Check to make sure that the screws have not completely pierced the foam. Check the security of your handle by lifting the case.
- 7). Mount wheels to the bottom of the case using the screwdriver and the mounting screws. Again, check to make sure that the screws do not completely pierce the foam.
- 8). Cut a thin piece of foam to the dimensions of the lid and glue it to the underside of the lid. Place the lid on the case, checking to make sure that the lid closes securely without having to be forced down. Remove the foam paneling and use the scissors or knife to thin the section if the lid cannot close completely.
- 9). Secure the lid to the case and tightly wind a bungee cord around the exterior of the case to further seal your road case.
